These Things Grow Fast!

A pic of the cucumber I was holding in my last blog, just 6 days later!

Fuzzy Cucumbers and Overgrown Chard

The middle of July: Cucumbers grow inches a day, no joke. The chard is going crazy and has thousands upon thousands of the knobby looking seeds it produces as it grows ever taller. Although at this point, it's so weighed down with seeds that it has flopped over and invades the walkway.

Harvesting Garlic

After 7 months in the ground, the garlic was ready to be pulled out. I was pretty certain I would pull it all up and it would be the tiniest, most pathetic garlic ever, but I was completely taken by surprise. It actually ended up being bigger than what you usually get in the store. My "Music" garlic ended up being large and extremely spicy. Although interestingly enough, not very strong smelling.

July 2, 2011 - I'll be planting more next time

The garage doubles as a flashback to my teenage years and a decent place to cure the garlic.

Alliums Have Weird Apendages

The garlic started getting scapes while I was gone, and I let these get way too big, which is supposed to inhibit bulb growth, but my garlic ended up being giant anyway so no harm no foul. I finally cut them off and had a very unique bouquet on my kitchen counter for over a month.

Some of my onions also randomly went to seed.

And the chive blossoms were dry and bursting with seeds.

Back from the Roadtrip...there's a jungle in my backyard!

I went on a three week road trip all around the country. Before leaving I set up a drip system throughout the entire garden so my roommate would only need to check to make sure nothing was dying rather than water every day. This turned out to be a VERY good investment as my roommate skipped town, and decided to turn the drip off before leaving. I had a friend go check on my place because I was getting weird (justified) vibes from my roommate. He turned it back on, and the garden was just fine until I returned.
